
Yan Theoret is a Francophone, bilingual videographer with 20 years of broadcasting experience, who specializes in technically challenging, documentary-style story telling for a diverse range of audiences. From working with Syrian refugees in Iraq and Jordan, to building trusting relationships with families with medical vulnerabilities, to flying the latest RPAS systems on film and television sets, Yan brings a technical expertise and cultural competence to highly sensitive projects. As an RPAS pilot, Yan is a seasoned professional who seamlessly interweaves land and aerial imagining.
He works in broadcast, corporate, industrial, and film and television production with a range of organizations and clients – most recently, for Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Crave, CBC, DroneBoy, Hulu, Netflix, YES TV, and The Weather Network . Yan is a constantly updating his skills and is proficient on a range of camera systems, such as: Canon, Sony, Red, Arri, Panasonic and Black Magic.
Yan’s background in broadcast television means he has the skills to work quickly, delivering quality stories to deadline in often challenging environments. Yan grew his roots in community television and participatory video – he believes in the democratization of production and has facilitated numerous video production workshops to people who would not otherwise have access to professional production equipment and education.
Yan has been a certified RPAS pilot since 2015 and is also an IATSE local 667 RPAS pilot. He has piloted a range of drones, such as: Alta 6; Alta 8; Alta X; various DJI platforms, including the Inspire, Mavic, Phantom and FPV lines, as well as drones for industrial applications including laser Lidar systems. He is also at the forefront of the newly emerging field of First-Person View (FPV) RPAS technologies. In his spare time, Yan enjoys building, flying and maintaining FPV drones.
